Sometimes when the weather is splendid, in the lower 50’s during the day accompanied by a graceful unwieldy wind, some of the tiniest Floridians just don’t appreciate it. This very gusty afternoon caught us all by surprise as our family shoot had been scheduled for an outdoor extravaganza. We’re talking cozy fall sweaters, muted colors and much greenery; a visually exciting setting for this perfectly dynamic bunch of seven. Much to the distaste of our youngest clients we were taught a very important lesson about contingency plans and working “on the fly”.
To expect the unexpected shows a thoroughly modern intellect. —Oscar Wilde
Consequently, we ditched the outdoor foliage for warm and cozy; where delightfully red noses and cheeks had a chance to get toasty in their own comfort zone.
Perhaps the most amazing part of our job is how fortunate we are in having the opportunity to enter the lives of so many charming families. The Perrines, guided by a compassionate and loving matriarch who raised two gentlemen all at once [i.e. twins], were in need of some traditional holiday portraits for the year. Come in Solis and I, who were ecstatic to have double doses of Baby “J” and get a chance to meet the rest of his clan, including his equally-as-adorable big cousin Will who also stole our hearts, grunts and all.
And we became one with the rhythm of the Perrines as they gathered in the family room: carefree, animated and humorous. There are times we forget we are on the job, because our work is just THAT incredible! There we were taking a backseat, witnessing a keepsake moment from behind our viewfinders and the Perrines savoring one another’s company allowed us to just take them in.
We learned that the “heart of life” encompasses fleeting moments like these. Where family gathers close to celebrate the arrival of new members here and now, these tiny babes who make a grand entrance, take center stage and steal the show.
