Some of our moms express anxiety weeks before a session; mostly their apprehension stems from the fear of their beautiful new bundle not behaving. We find ourselves often enlightening them of the realism in shooting with infants, “they call the shots”. As a result, our job is to assuage these moms that we are prepared for even the feistiest of stars. Sometimes their forceful cries will instantaneously dwindle and fuse into a luscious belly laugh; they’ll easily become famished and exhausted such that you’ll believe they played Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in a previous life. We’ll remind moms that “not a single one will be sunshine and rainbows”… boy, were we ever wrong.
The Simons arrived at our photo shoot holding a precious, tiny 13-week old baby boy with bright vigilant brown eyes. I quickly noticed Mom carried a worried brow along with that babe and at once she listed all the ways in which baby Simon would be an impish little rascal. She warned us that chances are he wouldn’t want to struggle through his tummy time; probably hang his head and carefully tread his efforts. No matter how hard Mom and Dad would work, this little man she declared was bound not to perform the way we sought.
Oh, but little baby Simon was on a mission to make Mommy out to be a “fibber”, he kept us locked in his intent gaze often flirting with a charming gummy grin and cavernous dimples on display. He dared not cry and instead worked the cameras like a pro! Simons, what will it be for this little man? The Big Screen, magazine ads or perhaps a stint in a Baby Gap ad campaign is more his style… the possibilities are endless.
If one feels the need of something grand, something infinite, something that makes one feel aware of God, one need not go far to find it. I think that I see something deeper, more infinite, more eternal than the ocean in the expression of the eyes of a little baby. // Vincent van Gogh
Family values instill in us a sense of worth and create sentimental importance in our day-to-day lives. What exists as your most beloved symbols and traditions inevitably soak into the future of your baby. Exactly so, the Simons are a religious unit who take pride in the words that radiate from their Bible. They place much esteem into their sacred readings which the little man will one day grow to emulate.
You’ve heard it said time and again, we start and end with family. All of those important milestones that precious baby Simon will overcome with Mommy and Daddy as his support will eventually play a crucial role in his development and the person he will become. Familial bridges are formed from minute yet significant moments shared as a unit, where such events like walks in the park become their stepping stones.
Thank you Simons for allowing us to photograph the beginnings of your wonderful little family. Your little man was so great, we hope you bring him back when he reaches all of those important baby milestones!
This was a very enjoyable shoot even though Bug made a liar out of me!!! Then again, the photographers were amazing also. 🙂
