It was as though we were lifted from the ground by the nape of our collars and abruptly dropped into the dimly lit room only to alter our roles into that of fashion runway photographers. A fleeting glance around the bar stimulated our eager digits as the ambiance conveyed that unpredictability and fast pace privy to fashion shows. Beautiful models decked in extravagant Jimmy Choo shoes; animal prints and vibrant shades adorned on seductive heels and playful boots. Each pair took on a life of its own.
The event was shaped by the ladies of the Young Executives for Success group, of the greater Orlando area. One hundred percent of all the proceeds earned went towards Dress for Success, a non-profit organization that makes it their duty to provide low-income women with business attire and prospects for career development. Held at a lively downtown Orlando bar, FinnHenry’s the strip was organized to star namesake Jimmy Choo’s elegant footwear on top of an exposed, double-sided bar. To have worked with two such distinguished organizations that evening was more than we could have aspired, even more enjoyable was the time spent watching the shiny eye candy as we partook in what we love to do, photograph.
Upon our arrival we were met by Natalie, who immediately escorted us towards the model practice area just off a side door from the bar. We were urgently asked to begin shooting and so it was that we delved into the job. Where ambient light was concerned it was our expectation that we would have to function under extreme low lighting. Alas, flash photography is part of the fashion industry, I presumably think of it going together like peanut butter and jelly. [heh] Being as though Solis and I are not flash photographers by any means it provided us a wonderful challenge and lesson learned.
One of the Y.E.S.! members offered me the chance to use her speed light in an effort to maximize the available indoor light. Although it was my first time fully operating a Canon external flash, it was an interesting sensation to feel in control of an energy source, one that Solis and I have sewn into the fabric of our business. We have developed a profound respect for light, how it behaves, radiates and can be manipulated by subtle movements [in our wrists]. Given our promise to shoot in all natural settings, it was a pleasant deviation that only reaffirmed our love for non-flash photography and the power it has on a photograph.
Special thanks to the ladies in Y.E.S.! for offering the opportunity to us with open arms and allowing us to experience this enjoyable photographic journey.

Thank you very much, it was a learning experience for us both. But I couldn’t have done it without you on my mind, always pushing me to be better at everything I do.
I love you.
