You met Yurani (link here) some time ago when she was “accommodating” her soon-to-be son Benson among the brilliantly aquamarine springs and towering golden grasses. Ever the naturalist, there is something distinctive about her personality that urged me then to shoot her in the great outdoors. Let’s face it; there is nothing more enticing that the crisp feel of a Florida breeze and that earthy scent that comes paired with an ever-flowing spring park.
It seems as though her son was pioneered with a passion for nature just out of the womb as precious Benson arrived on a day “intended to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment”. How appropriate for him to enter the world on Earth Day!
Of course that magical ambiance and tranquil atmosphere of natural surroundings is quite alluring to the senses, with a wee baby it remains ever more tantalizing. Environmental therapy on even the most fussy of babies always allows Mom a much needed break and brings to light in our photographs the dynamics of rough terrain against delicate infant skin.
We were fortunate enough to have this tiny man as our subject since my beloved college acquaintance dwells in the great Georgia peach state. However far the distance, Ashley and I still shared creative visions of Benson tuckered out on a rugged slab of wood and or even belly-up on a bed of stone. Contrary to our visions and the exquisiteness of the location we finally shot at, Benson’s agenda had been conflicting with our own.
Little man was a wide-eyed wonder. What positions we preferred he had no interest in humoring. Equipped with an array of props- including iron benches, stone mountains, sizeable decorative platters and vintage embroidered armchairs – we had been ill prepared for his itinerary. However, graciously to our encouraging pleas and Mom’s gentle pacifying he delivered just beautifully, as we likely knew he would.
Trey and Yurani, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for carving out time from your short visit so that we could meet your little Gremlin. He is lovely and beautiful; may your journey through parenthood flow smoothly and be sure to keep us posted on your adventures in Colorado!
