“I have this little brother, Gavin. He is small and very funny.” – derived from Charlie and Lola.
If you are unfamiliar with the title of this entry you have not become acquainted with one of the sweetest television shows on Playhouse Disney, Charlie and Lola. My most charming little brother has always embodied the mindset of clever, quirky and energetic, little sister Lola. Just as imaginative and humorous, we two constantly laugh at the idea of just how much he and I are like the dynamic pair.
Similar to Lola, Gavin was not thrilled of reaching a milestone in his seven year lifespan, which included the loss of several baby teeth and the gain of a toothless smile. It proved difficult for everyone to discover ways in order to make him smirk as he ultimately knew the ulterior motive would be to showcase his new “big boy” status and front row vacancy.
Fortunately, my brother has grown accustomed to my passion of photography and has developed quite the adoration for it as well. Yearly, since he has made his debut into the world I have taken many shoots of my dimply boy, our tradition being a minimum of a session per birthday. Each of them unique, none of them reflecting any from prior years. This time before reaching eight years, it was my goal to capture his absolutely precious gummy grin, and abide by our “ritual”; thereby allowing Gavin to pick the location and the direction he wanted to shoot in.
You may believe this animated, inquisitive boy would not know how to recognize those elements which make a great photo shoot, but like any other client I chose to cater to his requests. Interestingly enough, Gavin wanted snapshots in the refuge of his bedroom, surrounded by his plush, appearing in his bedtime jammies.
Yet again, my ingenious little brother taught me that simple themes, while comfortable and casual, prove to be refreshing and may possibly exceed your expectations. Thus formulating the power to convey story, perhaps the very narrative of a sensitive boy confidently balancing between infancy and independence.
First of all, he is too too cute!! I love the last photo. Something about the way his lips stick out in the black and white. I didn’t even know he was in that one picture until the second look and I saw his little feet sticking up!! The catchlights in his eyes look amazing in the one with the book. These are great proof that you can get great photos in any situation 🙂
Thank you very much, I think he’s a babe too; but as his older sister I am COMPLETELY biased. 😀
I am glad to hear another photographers opinion on the photos, they were fun… and you know that’s the greatest part of what we do. We are here to ensure that our clients have a great time!
I appreciate all the kind words and hope to see you back here often!!
Ahhhh. He’s the best thing ever. I can’t even pick a favorite picture.
Haha! He’s totally the best boy ever!! And I had a hard enough time picking the ones that I did, if you can believe that!! I have some other really great ones to post on the facebook account, you will crack up!!! 😀
Gavin is adorable and has a great big sister who takes amazing pictures!
You are the best, Kathy! Thank you for all your sweet comments and support on the photography. Please send our link to any and all relatives 🙂
